A Rich History

Built between 1844 and 1850, Peckforton Castle was originally commissioned by John Tollemache, a prominent Cheshire landowner and Member of Parliament. Renowned architect Anthony Salvin was chosen to bring Tollemache's vision to life, resulting in a masterpiece of Gothic Revival architecture.

During World War II, the castle served as a hostel for physically disabled children. It wasn't until 1969 that it regained its grandeur when it was leased by George W. Barrett, an American who meticulously restored the right wing, tower, and castle gardens. Since then, Peckforton Castle has been a private residence, a filming location, and a hotel.
