As a few months ago, I hadn't even heard of a baby gender reveal party, but today I'm here to share all the details of the fabulous way we celebrated our first grandchild on the way. Planning a baby gender reveal party can be an exciting and memorable experience for both the parents-to-be and their loved ones. It's a perfect opportunity to come together and celebrate the anticipation of the newest addition to the family.

Tips for Throwing a Baby Gender Reveal Party

  1. Decide on the location for the party.
  2. Invite family and friends, including someone who can be trusted to keep the secret of the baby's gender.
  3. Choose the theme and decor.
  4. Prepare the food. It doesn't have to be fancy; an ice cream party is a great suggestion where everyone contributes!
  5. Vote for team girl or team boy.
  6. Do something creative for the reveal, such as silly string.

When our oldest daughter and son-in-law announced that they were expecting our first grandchild, we were overjoyed! Rachel immediately started talking about a gender reveal party, and I quickly turned to Pinterest to see what she had in mind. Little did I know that we would embark on another DIY adventure together, just like we did for her wedding.

Rachel had an ultrasound scheduled at 20 weeks, and we planned the party for the next day. We prayed for good weather since the party was set to take place in their backyard. Fortunately, the sun was shining brightly, providing the perfect setting for this joyous occasion.

1. Decide on the Location

Rachel and Donny wanted to celebrate in their backyard, and it turned out to be a beautiful sunny evening. The tables were evenly divided between pink and blue, creating an enchanting atmosphere for the guests.

2. Invite Family and Friends

The guest list included both family and friends who were eager to join in the celebration of the precious new life. It's always important to have a close friend who can keep a secret until the big reveal. Whitney played that role and was in charge of the sealed envelope containing the baby's gender, as well as the silly string for the guests.

3. Choose the Decor

Rachel decided to use teal to represent a boy and hot pink for a girl, resulting in a burst of vibrant colors. We used tulle pom poms, fans, and strands of circles to create a backdrop by attaching them to thin white plastic with fishing wire. The combination of teal, hot pink, black, and yellow created a visually stunning display.

We also made an inexpensive banner out of chalkstock tile, burlap, and canvas pendants, which can be erased and used for future celebrations. Tim came up with the idea of using baby food jars for homemade DIY citronella candles, adding a perfect touch to the outdoor ambiance.

4. Prepare the Food

Rachel's friend Whitney decorated the girl and boy cupcakes, adding a delightful touch to the dessert table. Rachel set up an ice cream bar, providing all the fixin's and serving them in adorable tin buckets from Target. Each family was asked to bring a gallon of ice cream, and the dollar store plastic baskets filled with ice ensured they stayed cold.

5. Vote for Team Girl or Team Boy

Guests were asked to vote for Team Girl or Team Boy and wear pink or blue to show their preference. It was a fun and interactive way to get everyone involved in the excitement. The room was filled with anticipation as the votes were tallied.

6. Do Something Creative for the Reveal

After enjoying the delicious ice cream bar, it was time for the big moment. Rachel and Donny were separated from the guests, and everyone had a can of silly string ready. As they were covered in a shower of blue silly string, their faces reflected pure joy and excitement. It was Team Boy all the way!
