Are you ready to throw an unforgettable party for your child's first birthday? As a Mexican-American, I understand the importance of tradition, especially when it comes to having a pinata at the celebration. However, purchasing a pinata from a local Mexican market can be expensive. That's why I want to share with you my step-by-step guide on how to make a beautiful Cocomelon TV Pinata, even if you're a complete beginner!

Crafting Your Own Pinata

Affordable Supplies

To get started, you'll need a few supplies that are easy to find and won't break the bank. Here's what you'll need:

  • Cardboard
  • Masking tape
  • Rope or wire (I recommend using rope for durability)
  • Razor or box cutter
  • Scissors
  • Glue gun

Cutting Out the Shapes

Begin by cutting out two identical 16-inch by 16-inch pieces of cardboard. Make sure to round off the corners to give your pinata a polished look. If you're unsure where to find the right cardboard, ask for a slip sheet at your local Costco or use any sturdy cardboard you can find.

Creating 4" Strips for the Sides

Next, cut a few 4-inch wide cardboard strips. The length of these strips doesn't matter. To make things easier when bending the sides around the top and bottom pinata pieces, cut against the corrugation of the cardboard.

Preparing the Masking Tape

Now, rip off several pieces of masking tape and place them around your work area. Don't be afraid to use plenty of tape – we'll be using a lot of it throughout the process.

Assembling the Pinata

Take one of the top or bottom cardboard pieces and start attaching a 4-inch side piece using the pre-cut masking tape. To connect another 4-inch side piece, slide it in the back of the already attached one, then staple them together. Continue taping until you've gone all the way around.

Strengthening the Pinata

For extra durability, cut a leftover 4-inch side piece to a length of about 5-7 inches. Bend it into a tube and secure it with a piece of masking tape. Use a glue gun to attach the tube anywhere inside the pinata. Depending on the size of your pinata, you may need to add a couple more tubes for additional strength.

Attaching the Rope

To hang your pinata, poke two holes in the top and loop a piece of rope through them. Tie a knot at each end to secure it in place. Give the rope a good tug to make sure it's securely attached.

Adding the Top Piece

Finish assembling your pinata by attaching the remaining top piece in the same way you did the first one. Tape the top piece to the 4-inch side pieces using masking tape until you've gone all the way around.

Reinforcing the Pinata

For an extra sturdy pinata, wrap masking tape all around it, as if you're wrapping up a ball of yarn. This step is optional but highly recommended if you want your pinata to withstand a few good hits.
