Introduction

Welcome to another edition of My Limited Knowledge, where we delve into the exciting world of the Limited format. In this series, we've covered Draft, Sealed, and Cube, but now it's time to explore the lesser-known variants. This week, we'll be taking a closer look at Two-Headed Giant, a format that adds a new twist to the game. So, let's dive in!

How Does it Work?

Two-Headed Giant is a team-based format where two players pair up to form one "Two-Headed Giant" team. They play against other teams, treating themselves as a single player. This means they take their turns simultaneously, share life totals, and coordinate their strategies. However, they are still considered as two separate players in certain scenarios, such as when an effect targets a player.

Each "head" of the team has its own library, graveyard, battlefield, and hand, but constant communication between the two players is allowed to make joint decisions. The shared life total for the team is typically set at 30, creating a unique dynamic that requires teamwork and coordination to succeed.

How to Build the Decks?

Deck building in Two-Headed Giant closely follows the format to which it is applied. For example, in a Two-Headed Giant Draft, the players will draft as usual, but they are seated next to each other and can discuss their picks during the process. If it's a Sealed event (which is recommended), the two players will receive a shared pool of packs, usually 8, 10, or 12. From these packs, they will construct two decks, each drawing from the same card pool.

The deck-building process itself remains similar to what we've seen in other formats. You can refer to our previous articles for a more in-depth guide. The only difference is that you will be building two decks instead of one, which opens up more possibilities and adds an extra layer of strategy to the game.
