Kids’ parties are a source of pure joy and wonderment. And if you want to bring some extra magic to your next celebration, look no further than these DIY dinosaur balloons! They are simply amazing!

Amazing dinosaur party balloons with free SVG template file!

I recently created a bunch of these balloon dinosaurs for my nephew's 3rd birthday party. Since his party had a dinosaur theme, these balloons were the perfect decoration choice. However, don't limit yourself to just dinosaur parties! These balloons would work equally well for jungle or monster themed parties. You could even adapt them to fit a zoo theme!

Now, let me share a little secret with you. When I started designing and cutting the balloons, I was surprised to find that there were no existing templates available. Considering how popular these balloon dinosaurs are, I thought for sure there would be plenty of templates out there. But, alas, I couldn't find any. So, to save you the trouble of searching, I decided to create printable templates for you to use. You don't have to reinvent the wheel anymore if you want to create these incredible dinosaur balloons!

Dinosaur balloon templates

To download the templates, simply click HERE and get the full set of dinosaur balloon templates right away! Now, some of you might be wondering why there's a small fee for the templates. Well, let me explain. I used to offer them for free, but the demand was overwhelming, and I couldn't keep up with the requests. By charging a small fee, I can make the templates instantly available to you, saving you time and ensuring you get them when you need them. Trust me, it's worth the investment!

Now, let's get down to business. Here's what you'll need:

Materials:

  • Printer (a standard home printer will do) OR a Silhouette cutting machine (if you want to take your crafting to the next level)
  • Colored card
  • Balloons in corresponding colors
  • Scissors
  • Sellotape
  • Clear string (to keep it invisible)

Instructions for Assembly:

[Top tip: Steps 1-4 can be done well in advance of the party. Steps 5-6 can be done the night before the party. Allow 1hr+ for steps 5-6 if creating all 5 styles. Allow more time if you're doing extras.]

Step 1: Download templates

Purchase the templates for just $2 by clicking HERE.

Step 2: Print out each template onto colored card (skip this step if you're using a cutting machine)

We found that having one of each dinosaur (5 balloons in total) was enough decoration for our party. However, feel free to print out as many as you'd like. They can also make great takeaway gifts for party guests if you have extras! Use whichever colored card you prefer for each dino. If you want to do the same as us, here's our color choices:

  • Red for the T-Rex
  • Green for the Stegosaurus
  • Yellow for the Diplodocus
  • Orange for the Triceratops
  • Black for the Pterodactyl

Step 3: Cut out the templates

Use scissors to cut out each piece of the dinosaur. If you have a Silhouette machine, Cricut, or similar cutting machine, you can simply use the PNG versions of the files with your software. Feed your colored card into the machine, and it will cut the design for you. Isn't that convenient? That's what I did! I used the PNG templates and made them slightly bigger in the Silhouette software to fit 12"x12" card. You can easily adapt my templates to fit your cutting pattern using the tracing tool in your Silhouette software.

Step 4: Blow up the balloons

Once you have all your cut-out dino templates, you're ready to assemble. To ensure the balloons look their best for the party, I recommend doing this step no earlier than 3 nights before the event. That way, they won't look deflated and sad when it's time to celebrate. When you're ready, blow up a balloon for each dinosaur you're creating and set them aside.

Step 5: Stick the dinosaur cut-outs to the balloons

Use the 'READ THIS' document included in the download to help you place each dinosaur piece on the corresponding balloon. Adhere each cardboard piece using Sellotape.

Step 6: Hang up your completed dinosaur balloons

Once you're done, attach a string to each completed balloon and hang them up! Depending on the dinosaur, you may need to attach a couple of pieces of string. For example, the Diplodocus will need one at the top of its head to keep it upright. The Pterodactyl will need one on each wing and possibly one on the head too. You can decide what looks best for your space.

For more detailed information on how to assemble each dinosaur balloon, refer to the 'READ THIS' PDF document included in the download.

Dinosaur Balloon FAQs - here are the answers to the questions I get asked most often!

  • Q: Can you send me the dinosaur balloon templates?

    • A: You can purchase the full set of templates for just NZD$2 HERE. I used to offer them for free, but the demand became overwhelming, and I had to find a better solution to ensure everyone gets the templates in a timely manner. Your understanding and support are greatly appreciated!
  • Q: I thought these were free?

    • A: I did offer the templates for free at one point, but it became unsustainable, and many people were left waiting. To offer immediate downloads and cover admin costs, I had to introduce a nominal fee. I apologize if you came here expecting them to be free, but I assure you it was never a dishonest intention. I hope you still enjoy visiting my site and find the templates worth the investment!
  • Q: The link to the PDF files you sent me isn't working.

    • A: Once you purchase the templates, the links to all the documents will appear on the web page and will be emailed to you. You'll find both PDF and PNG versions, so choose whichever format suits you best.
  • Q: Are the templates available in SVG or other formats? How do I use them with my cutting machine?

    • A: Yes, they are available in PNG format now, which should save you a lot of time. If you have a Silhouette or Cricut machine, you can upload the file into your design software and use the "trace" tool to define the cut lines. For more information on using this tool, you can find a guide here.
  • Q: I'm making these balloons for a public space like a library or school classroom. Is that okay?

    • A: Absolutely! I am thrilled to hear from readers who have created a magical experience for their students in classrooms and libraries. However, if you plan to use the templates for decor at non-educational or corporate events, please reach out to me at [email protected] for permission.
  • Q: Can I on-sell the templates or the made-up balloons at craft fairs or for an event company?

    • A: Unfortunately, no. Each file is copyrighted, and I share them in good faith that they won't be misused. If you have questions about proper usage or if you believe someone is using my designs inappropriately for financial gain, please contact me at [email protected].
  • Q: Can I include your templates on my website or blog?

    • A: I would love it if you share the link back to my site so that more people can enjoy creating these balloons! Just make sure to provide a link back to Flicker & Flock and refrain from posting the template files directly on your own site. Thank you for your understanding!
