Vellum is back and it's here to stay! This semi-transparent paper can give your DIY wedding invitations a beautifully light and airy look, all while being budget-friendly and easy to print on. With a few additional paper layers and some pretty little details, you can effortlessly create wedding invitations that are both elegant and romantic. Here are four creative ideas to get you started:

1.) Simple Vellum Wrap

If you're a couple who appreciates simplicity but wants to add an elegant finishing touch to your invitations, try incorporating a subtle vellum wrap.

To assemble:

  1. Line up your invitation card in the corner of an 8.5 x 11" sheet of vellum.
  2. Mark the height of your invitation card on the vellum and cut it accordingly.
  3. Center your invitation card on the cut vellum and fold both sides so that they overlap in the front middle.

This look pairs beautifully with a wax seal, ribbon, or even a belly band.

2.) Vellum Belly Band

For a small yet sophisticated embellishment, cut a sheet of vellum into strips and use them as a belly band to wrap up your invitation suite with a lovely finishing detail.

To assemble:

  1. Trim your vellum into belly bands of your desired width.
  2. Lay the belly band on top of your invitation card, ensuring it's straight and centered.
  3. Fold one side to the back, then flip over, pull the loose side tight, and line it up with the folded side before folding against the invitation card. Secure with tape or a glue dot.

Print, paint, or hand-letter a design on the front of your belly band, adding a personal touch to your invitations.

3.) Vellum Pattern Overlay

Printing a design on vellum to overlay on top of your invitation is a unique way to add decoration to a simple design.

To assemble:

  1. Trim your invitation card and vellum overlay to the same size.
  2. Line up the two layers and fasten them together with a brad, making a small hole through both layers before inserting the brad.

This method works best with a border design, seal/logo, names, or anything that adds decoration without overwhelming the invitation details.

4.) Vellum Printed Invitation

If you want to make your simple or text-only invitation design more interesting, consider printing it on vellum and pairing it with another layer.

To assemble:

  1. Ensure your invitation and design files are the same size.
  2. Print the main invitation on vellum and the bottom design on thicker cardstock or textured paper.
  3. Trim both layers accordingly.
  4. Place the vellum on top of the cardstock design and secure them together with a brad or paper fastener.

Let your creativity shine by experimenting with different patterns, textures, and designs. The possibilities are endless!
